Quatie Ross

Quatie Ross, originally uploaded by Arkansas Ties.

I find this marker at Mount Holly interesting, not only because of who it is, but the number of items left by visitors. I am going to check back in a year and photograph it again to see "if" and "what" has disappeared from it.

Smoke Stack

Smoke Stack, originally uploaded by Arkansas Ties.

This smoke stack is in North Little Rock on the River Road right up from where Vestal's used to be. Wondering if anyone knows anything about it or what the property used to be?

Mounds Cemetery, Hempstead County, Arkansas

Jamie Brandon has posted this cemetery on Flickr. I wish it was closer, would be interesting to rephotograph it before the grass & weeds start growing again.

Barry Lee Fairchild

Barry Lee Fairchild, originally uploaded by Arkansas Ties.

Arkansas death row. We can't pick our family, and we grieve even when they do wrong, but I think this tombstone is a little much..."Barry died so that someone else would live." He kidnapped, murdered and raped a woman. Enough said - just a marker I found interesting. Oakland Fraternal Cemetery, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Black History Month

Catherine Lawson, originally uploaded by Arkansas Ties.

I find this marker very interesting & one of these days I am going to see if I can find any articles on it in the paper. It is located over at Oakland Fraternal Cemetery in Little Rock, Arkansas.

This is Mr. Herman Uekman. He's white and buried somewhere at Sumner Cemetery. I don't know where he's buried as he likes to move around. I would love to know the story behind this "marker." It a hubcap, turned upside down, and filled with concrete. Everytime I have been to Sumner Cemetery in Jacksonville, he is in a new location. He just bounces around from one spot to another. Anyway...it gives me a chuckle...I know, I am sadistic like that but I can only think whoever did this, also has a sense of humor.

I find this article funny....United States Government approved....radio - active hot waters. Probably a good thing they have dropped that from their advertising, but it does make me wonder about the water over there now. ;)

I430 Bridge, Little Rock, Arkansas

The past few days have been dreary here in central Arkansas. This photograph is all the motivation I can work up. Ha......and it has nothing to do with history or genealogy. I need sunshine, warmth, and spring!

Sunday, I drove down to the Cadron Creek Park to photograph this cabin...the Daniel Greathouse Cabin. Was it there? No. Two dozen (at least) have copied and keep posting the wrong information. This picture is from Pat Anthony, along with the others I have posted at
Pat told me that the Greathouse Cabin is at the Faulkner County Court House. I was up there Sunday, and I am sure it is probably still there but I didn't see it or a sign, but then again, I wasn't looking for it over there.
David Simmons sent me the following:
Hello, Pris!
I saw your blog post regarding the Greathousehome and thought I'd pass this along. During a web search,I came across the same inaccurate information about the Greathouse home. The Daniel Greathouse home is actually located in downtown Conway one street behind the Faulkner County Courthouse. It currently serves as the FaulknerCounty Museum. Here's some accurate info that I eventually located:
So there you have it.....I am going to try and run back up there this Sunday and see if I can find it. I am on a mission now. :)

Sherwood, AR

Roundtop, Sherwood, AR, originally uploaded by M. Shane Glass.

I found this pic by M. Shane Glass over on flickr. Does anyone know the history behind it? On the list to go photograph soon. How about David, Linda? Any scoops?

David Brannon sent me the following:
We are trying to get a fence around the Bayou Meto Cemetery. We had (2) vandalism's recently. The first they turned over and broke about 200 monuments. We have most of them repaired now, thanks to the Jacksonville Fire Departments Union.
